elcome to East End Child Safety Project. Established in 1996, the East End Child Safety Project is a community initiative whose service is managed and delivered by local volunteers. The Project is supported by two East End Partnership projects, East End Health Action who are the local Community Health Project and more recently by the Social Economy Team.
The Project provides information, advice and home safety equipment from six local venues to approximately 350 low income families annually, who live in the Glasgow East End Social Inclusion Partnership area and have a child under the age of five or a child of any age who has a disability.
Discussions took place where potential areas for development and growth were identified and following these discussions, a Development Event was held in November 2003. The event resulted in the project adopting a more strategic focus on the needs of local families and in particular, the safety needs of the 0 to 2 year olds within the home.
In June 2004, a three year business plan was produced and in November 2004, the East End SIP Board supported an award to the Project from the SIP Key Fund of £29,200. The Child Safety Project has now secured premises in London Road, and is currently meeting with potential partners to secure funding to recruit, train and employ local people as Home Safety Advisers to fully develop the home visit programme which will include home assessments and fitting of safety equipment. It is envisaged the programme will commence in Spring 2005 and on implementation, it will enhance the social and economic benefits to the local community by increasing skills, knowledge, capacity building and by providing employment for local people
The Child Safety Project is currently looking to recruit and train local people who would be interested in becoming involved with this exciting local development. If you interested in becoming involved or wish more information the Child Safety Project can be contacted here.
